WASHINGTON - The Georgetown men's and women's track & field teams both earned all-academic status, as announced by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) today. A total of 85 men's NCAA Division I institutions earned the honor while 171 schools got the nod on the women's side.

The Hoya women helped lead the BIG EAST Conference lead all other leagues with 12 teams named all-academic with GU being joined by Cincinnati, Connecticut, DePaul, Louisville, Marquette, Notre Dame, Rutgers, St. John's, USF, Villanova and West Virginia. The MAC and Big Ten followed with nine teams apiece to make the list.

On the men's side Georgetown helped the BIG EAST Conference tie with the Ivy League as conference leaders with seven teams each earning all-academic honors. The ACC followed with six. Georgetown was joined by Cincinnati, DePaul, Louisville, Notre Dame, Rutgers and Villanova in representing the league.

A team must have a cumulative team grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 or higher to be named a 2012 Division I All-Academic Track & Field Team.
