Georgetown Gets Past DePaul 6-3

WASHINGTON - Georgetown defeated DePaul on the road 6-3 on Saturday, March 9 in the first conference game of the season. The Hoyas are now 10-11 on the season and 1-0 in BIG EAST play while DePaul falls to 4-16 and 0-1 in league action.

 

How it Happened

  • The Hoyas opened scoring after Dayanara Campos' double to left center brought Brooke Rebhan home, giving GU a 1-0 lead in the first inning.

  • Kayla Dunn kept the Blue Demons off the board in the bottom of the first, throwing back-to-back strikeouts with runners on first and third.

  • Each team put a runner on base in the second inning, but neither was able to score any runs.

  • Georgetown did not allow any Blue Demon runners on base in the third or fourth inning. The impressive Hoya defensive performance was capped off with a spectacular diving catch by Claire Turner in the outfield.

  • In the top of the fifth, Hollie Pardini hit her first career home run. Emily Strittmatter then hit a double to left center, bringing Rebhan home from first and putting the Hoyas up 3-0.

  • DePaul recorded three runs in the bottom of the third to tie the game.

  • Neither team scored any runs in the sixth or seventh innings, sending the game to extras.

  • The Hoyas exploded in the eighth inning, taking a 6-3 lead. GU recorded four hits, three of which were doubles. Strittmatter, Campos and Gabby Park all tallied runs in the inning.

  • Two strikeouts from Julia Parker allowed Georgetown to hold DePaul scoreless in the bottom of the eighth, giving the first game of the series to the Hoyas.

 

Hoya Highlights

  • Of the Hoyas 10 hits, seven of them went for extra bases, their most in any game this season.

  • Campos notched two doubles, two RBIs and a run.

  • Strittmatter also tallied two doubles to go along with a run and an RBI. 

  • Pardini hit her first career home run in the fifth inning.

  • Rebhan recorded two runs in the game.

  • From the circle, Dunn tallied a season-high nine strikeouts in six innings pitched.

  • Dunn and Parker combined for 11 strikeouts in the game, the most in a game for the Hoyas all season.

 

Up Next

Georgetown will play games two and three of the series against DePaul in a doubleheader tomorrow, March 10 in Chicago, Illinois. The first game will begin at noon while the second game will start at 2:30 p.m.
