Georgetown Hoyas Swimming & Diving Finish Winter Training in Puerto Rico
Jan. 11, 2012
The Georgetown men's and women's swimming and diving team traveled to Ponce, Puerto Rico for its annual winter training trip, as the squad arrived on January 2. For the Hoyas, the sun and warm temperatures allowed them to train outdoors, as a change of scenery from its normal facility, McCarthy Pool at Yates Field House, where they have been training hard since early fall.
Aside from the long days of training in and out of the pool, the trip is designed to help the team bond, as they prepare for the second of the season, including this weekend's meet at James Madison University with American and VMI. The Hoyas have three more meets before traveling to Pittsburgh, Pa. for the BIG EAST Championships.
The Georgetown captains further discuss their winter training trip:
Hola from Ponce Puerto Rico!
We arrived safely here in Ponce on Monday, January 2 and have had a great first few days of training! The weather has been a welcome break from the winter up North. The temperature has been 80 degrees and higher and the Caribbean sun has kept our enthusiasm high and our skin red. Our daily workout, which consists of two swim practices and a dry land session, has us preparing to swim fast at the Big East Championships in Pittsburgh, which is only six weeks away. The Olympic size 50 meter outdoor pools we have been training in have given us the opportunity to further develop our aerobic base and increase the intensity of our training. Between our workouts we enjoy lying on the beach, playing volleyball and bonding as a team. We look forward to spending the next few days in Ponce working hard together, but can't wait to get back to the Hilltop to start the semester and resume our dual meet season.
