Georgetown Women's Golf Starts BIG EAST Championship this Weekend

WASHINGTON - The Georgetown University women's golf team departed this morning for Florida, where the Hoyas will compete in the BIG EAST Championship. The BIG EAST Championship will take place April 22-24 at Reunion Resort, hosted by Reunion and USF.

The first round of the BIG EAST Championship will begin on Sunday, April 22 with the first tee time at 8 a.m. The pairings are done by Golfstat Rankings.

The 10th women's championship will be held at the Watson Course for the first time in championship history. Last year Notre Dame won its fourth BIG EAST title since 2003. Notre Dame and Louisville have won a combined eight BIG EAST titles in the event's nine year history.

Georgetown is the fifth seed in the tournament, with USF ranked first, followed by Notre Dame, Louisville and St. John's. Cincinnati and Rutgers round out the field.

Georgetown has posted three top-10 finishes in five tournaments during the spring season and has six top-10 showings during the 2011-12 season. The Hoyas are coming off two of their best finishes of the year, a sixth place finish at the Hoya Invitational and a second place at the at the Spider Intercollegiate

The Hoyas are led by senior captains Eunae Jo (Ridgewood, N.J./Ridgewood) and Joan Dulieu (Bloomfield Hills, Mich./Detroit Country Day). Jo is second on the team with a 78.81 stroke average and has posted three top-20 finishes this season, including a third place finish at the Nittany Lion Invitational during the fall. Dulieu has played in 23 rounds this year and has a 79.39 stroke average, with two top-20 finishes and three among the top-30 overall.

Sophomore Alice Choi (Whitestone, N.Y./Bayside), who has enjoyed a tremendous spring season, leads the team with a 78.04 stroke average. She has three top-20 finishes this year and five among the top-30, including a third place finish at the Hurricane Invitational in early March when she shot a 12-over par 225 and finished in third place.

 

 

The Hoya lineup will also include juniors Katie Skinner (Boise, Idaho/Bishop Kelly) and Audrey Dalton (Portland, Ore./St. Mary). Skinner has played in 15 rounds this year and carries a 79.13 stroke average, which is third on the team. She had her best finish at the Spider Invitational, shooting a 12-over par 228 and tying for third place in the field of 82 golfers. She fired a career-best 1-under par 71 in the first round. Dalton has played 12 rounds this year and carries an 82.67 stroke average.

Last year, Georgetown finished in fourth place at the BIG EAST Championship and Jo earned All-BIG EAST honors with an eighth place individual showing at 14-over par 230.
