Georgetown Drops Two at UConn

WASHINGTON – Georgetown softball dropped a pair of games at the University of Connecticut on Friday in a doubleheader after Saturday's game was moved due to weather. The Huskies downed the Hoyas 5-3 in game one, before the Blue & Gray dropped a heartbreaker, 7-6, in game two. The Hoyas are now 6-20 overall, 2-6 in BIG EAST play, while UConn improves to 17-8 overall and 6-2 in conference play.

Head Coach Pat Conlan
  • "I'm heartbroken for the team, but I was proud of the fight in them throughout the day. UConn is tough but we battled until the end and had a chance to win. We will try to put together a complete game on Sunday."
Game 1 vs. the Huskies
How it Happened
  • The Hoyas were the first to get on the scoreboard in the first inning with an inside-the-park home run by Morgan Zamora, sending herself and Cameron Kondo across the plate.
  • The Huskies promptly answered in the bottom of the first with a single by Grace Jenkins resulting in two runs. The 2-2 tie would stand at the end of the inning.
  • UConn took the lead with a home run by Lexi Hastings in the bottom of the second, tacking on three runs to bring the score to 5-2.
  • The Hoyas responded with an RBI single by Kacy Lyman in the third, which sent Gabby Nemarich across the plate.
  • The 5-3 score would stand through the rest of the game, giving the Huskies the victory.

Game 2 vs. the Huskies
How it Happened
  • UConn opened the scoring in the bottom of the first as a double from Rosie Garcia put the Huskies up 1-0.
  • The second inning belonged to the Blue & Gray. A double from Park started the momentum as a bases loaded single to left field from Claire Turner sent Dayanara Campos home.
  • In the next at bat and with bases loaded once again, Kondo was looking at full count before hammering a grand slam to right field to give the Hoyas the 5-1 advantage in the second.
  • The Huskies added one in the bottom of the third to make it 5-2.
  • In the bottom of the fourth, a wild pitch and a single from Garcia allowed UConn to tie the game at five.
  • In her first full inning of work, pitcher Kayla Dunn went three up, three down as the Blue & Gray went to work looking for the go-ahead run.
  • It would come top of the seventh after a double down the left field line by Mae Forshey sent Turner across the plate to put the Hoyas on top.
  • UConn found an answer in the bottom of the inning as a pair of hits gave the Huskies two runs and the victory.
